R-454C freezer system preferred to system using CO2 as refrigerant

According to the Cooling Post, an airline caterer in Germany has selected a freezer system using R-454C (GWP 148, A2L refrigerant) in preference to one using CO₂ as refrigerant due to the following  factors:

• Electrical connection load could be reduced by more than 50%, meaning the existing distribution could be used;
• The system was designed with four individual circuits to stay within the requirements of EN 378-1 and provide redundancy;
• The purchase price of the system was reported to be 30% lower than that of the alternatively planned CO₂ refrigeration system with expected lower costs for service, maintenance and operation.
