Energy Efficiency

HFC and HFOs are used in a range of applications that help reduce energy consumption.

Building insulation

Insulation foam is one of the most efficient types of insulation and can be used for new and existing buildings. Improving the energy performance of the existing building stock is a key objective in the EU. Nonflammable
HFCs and HFOs are used as insulating gas in closed “cells” and remain in the foam during its lifetime of use.

Reducing Food Waste

Globally, most modern temperature controlled refrigerated transport relies on HFC and HFO refrigerants. Refrigerant HFCs and HFOs are very effective refrigerants for mobile applications and used in all transport types

Safe HFCs and HFOs are non-flammable which is key when used on the road or on board a ship

Heat Pumps

Heat pumps are much more efficient than other forms of heating and are widely used: they extract energy from air or water and transfer it to heat homes and office buildings. Compared to direct heating with fossil fuels they are much more energy efficient.
Heat pumps use the refrigeration cycle. They rely on the specific properties of a refrigerant to provide a greater heat output than the energy used to run the heat pump.
