R-455A REPLACING CO2 IN A GERMAN SUPERMARKET

A German supermarket has just been renovated and made the choice of an R-455A ice-water loop for its medium temperature refrigeration system.

Previously tried CO₂ systems had encountered pressure surges problems which caused damages and were more expensive then R-455A (GWP of 150 and mildly flammable A2L classification).

Seven display cases are cooled independently by their own ice-water loop refrigeration system, containing 1.6 kg R-455A and delivering on average 13 kW cooling capacity.

The supermarket low temperature level units and its air conditioning system are presently provided by propane (R-290) units. However as standards only allows a propane charge inside buildings up to 150 g, the owner is envisaging to converting them eventually to R-455A.
