REFRIGERANT ANALYZERS USED TO HELP IDENTIFY ILLEGAL TRADE

Refrigerant analysers are being used by international customs agencies to help prevent the import of illegal refrigerants. Handheld analysers using infrared technology are being used to identify the refrigerant and if it is potentially dangerous illegal. The handheld device allows border agents to quickly identify suspect refrigerant and hold the shipments for further evaluation. Refrigerant analysers are becoming more widely used by custom agencies and are playing an important role in combating the illegal refrigerant trade.

Explanatory Note: Refrigerant analysers can help detect illegal trade using False Labelling - Smuggled in cylinders or packaging labelled as legal products; and Mis-declaration- Disguised by putting the names of other similar, legal chemicals on shipping documents and invoices, in addition to contaminated refrigerants
