R-407C Air to water heat pumps used in 60 UK schools

01 April 2022

A project to install more than 180 R-407C air to water heat pumps in 60 UK schools will reduce carbon emissions and energy bills. The project is funded under the UK's Public Sector Decarbonisation Scheme (PSDS). A key project challenge was to ensure electrical loads at schools were not exceeded, which is often a constraint, requiring careful load planning to ensure limits were not exceeded. The highly efficient heat pumps are a major advantage for this project, while other low-energy and renewable technologies contribute to reducing power loads.

The R-407C air-to-water monobloc heat pumps are specifically designed for domestic hot water production and heating in new and refurbished buildings. Generating a water temperature of up to 65°C, they are based on high-efficiency, quiet-running scroll compressors and have a compact footprint and low profile, saving valuable space on site. The unit has an extended range allowing it to continue operating when outside temperatures fall to as low as -20°C.
