NEW ENERGY EFFICIENT R-134A REEFER, R-513A DROP-IN READY

26 April 2021

The new fresh or frozen reefer container offers increased power coefficient (energy performance) and reduced environmental impact using lower GWP R-134a (compared to R-452A which is widely used for reefers) and is also ready for the non-flammable R-513A drop-in refrigerant option further reducing environmental impact.

The reefers can reach and maintain temperatures in the toughest conditions between -30 and +30°C to safeguard product quality and have improved temperature and humidity control and offer fast pull-down to quickly reach specific set-points and increase the storage life of shipped goods. Additional sustainability benefits and reduction in operating cost come from the ability to optimize the power consumption mode to consume less energy and activate a wider temperature spread without compromising the cargo. Synchronized defrost enables simultaneous defrost cycles for adjoining reefers to optimize cooling performance and energy efficiency. Optional compatible water-cooled condensers offer a reliable alternative and reduced power consumption when air cooling capacity is insufficient, for example below deck.

Technical requirements for refrigerated transport systems are very complex and flammability risks are a main concern, along with energy efficiency and reliability. Non-flammable R-404A (GWP 3922, all AR4 F-gas values) has been widely replaced by non-flammable R-452A (GWP 2140). Reefers designed for use with R-134a (GWP 1430) may also be R-513A (GWP 631) drop-in refrigerant ready.
