HFC HEAT PUMP RECOVERS A DATA CENTER WASTE HEAT AT THE FRENCH «UNIVERSITE DE BOURGOGNE»

02 December 2017

A high temperature heat pump has been installed on the “Université de Bourgogne” campus in Lyon (France), in order to recover the waste heat from the University’s Data center cooling system.

The heat pump, with a heating capacity of 420 kW (expandable to 900) and a cooling capacity of 255 kW, uses a proprietary HFC mixture (not disclosed) having a lower GWP than the commonly used HFC-134a.

The high temperature two stages heat pump delivers cooling water to the data center at the temperature of 10 C, and lifts the temperature of the outlet water from 15 C to the uncommonly high temperature of 90 C of the University’s hot water network.
