HFC-134A EFFICIENT CHILLERS FOR CRUISE SHIPS

Originally designed for navy ships, HFC-134a chillers will be installed on cruise liners. Two vessels 236 m long will be equipped with four HFC-134a chillers, totaling a cooling capacity of 12 MW.

The chillers are tailored to meet the tough conditions at sea, where they operate in a sea water environment and, during heavy swell, liquid refrigerant must not flood the machine. Also special materials are used to resist the corrosion by sea water.

The system can be operated in free cooling mode, when cold sea water can provide the ship cooling requirement.
