HIGH CAPACITY R-32 CHILLER OFFERS ENVIRONMENTAL BENEFITS FOR NEW BUILDINGS

27 August 2020

A range of R-32 chillers with capacities up to 1100 kW offer high efficiency, free cooling and in addition extremely low refrigerant leakage <3 g/year due to their hermetic construction. The air-cooled chillers are now eligible for 3 BREEAM credits, highlighting the range’s energy efficient qualities and helping contractors achieve environmental targets on new build projects. BREEAM (see explanatory note) aims to reduce the life cycle impact of new buildings on the environment by awarding credits for products used within the building’s design which reduce the building’s carbon footprint.

The chillers have a tested refrigerant leakage rate of less than 3g/year and achieve an ESEER (European Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio) up to 5.26. Compared to R-410A counterparts, the R-32 chillers have higher efficiency and 16% lower refrigerant charge. As R-32 is classified as an A2L refrigerant i.e. mildly flammable all chillers have the following safety features as standard:
• Leak detection – sensor that will shut the unit down in the presence of a refrigerant leak.
• ATEX rated ventilation fan – activates in the event of a leak to disperse the refrigerant in order to prevent build-up- applicable with compressor enclosures.
• Isolating contactor – removes ignition sources within the chiller.

Explanatory note: BREEAM is the world’s leading sustainability assessment method for masterplanning projects, infrastructure and buildings. It recognises and reflects the value in higher performing assets across the built environment lifecycle, from new construction to in-use and refurbishment. BREEAM does this through third party certification of the assessment of an asset’s environmental, social and economic sustainability performance, using standards developed by BRE. This means BREEAM rated developments are more sustainable environments that enhance the well-being of the people who live and work in them, help protect natural resources and make for more attractive property investments. https://www.breeam.com
