HFC-410A CHILLERS TO BE USED FOR COOLING NEW METRO LINE STATION

12 November 2018

Specially customized high-performance chillers using non-flammable HFC-410A are to be used for London’s Elizabeth Line underground project to meet the stringent fire safety materials standards required for use underground. The chillers are equipped with zero halogen, low-smoke insulation and cables, and finished with specialist paint, all formulated to emit very limited smoke and/or fumes when exposed to heat or flame. The fifteen chillers use rotary scroll compressors and high-efficiency microchannel condenser coil technology were built on a heavy-gauge galvanized steel frame as reliability was also a key issue. Safety features include low ambient head pressure control and high short circuit current rating.

The Elizabeth line will stretch more than 60 miles from Reading and Heathrow in the west through central tunnels across to Shenfield and Abbey Wood in the east. When opened, it will stop at 41 stations, 10 newly built and 30 newly upgraded. The chillers will cool four stations.
