EFCTC COMMENT ON TRAJECTORIES OF THE EARTH SYSTEM IN THE ANTHROPOCENE AND HFC PHASE-DOWN

25 August 2018

The recent study, Trajectories of the Earth System in the Anthropocene, widely reported as ‘Hothouse Earth’ emphasises the need to reduce Greenhouse gas emissions as one of the measures that could steer the Earth System onto a ‘Stabilized Earth’ trajectory. This includes the reduction in production of chemicals such as HFCs. EFCTC supports the Kigali Amendment to phase-down HFCs and its member companies are introducing the HFOs, having GWPs similar to that for CO2 and less than the GWPs of a range of hydrocarbons. The HFOs are being used in new systems with improved energy efficiency leading to further emission reductions.
