Dear subscriber,

In this EFCTC October newsletter, we report on the submission to ECHA of the independent Socio-Economic Analysis (SEA) of the contribution of certain fluorinated gases (F-gases) to the economy and wider society. This study explores the potential economic and social effects of the proposed restriction on PFAS on activities associated with the manufacture, placing on the market and use of the F-gases in scope. We also report on the findings of an expert panel, convened to provide insight and guidance on per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) grouping for the purposes of protecting human health from drinking water exposures, and how risks to PFAS mixtures should be assessed.

We cover the International Energy Agency (IEA) report, Technology and innovation pathways for zero-carbon-ready buildings by 2030. Heat pumps, district energy networks and renovation of existing building stock are crucial components to achieve this objective. We also cover the rapid expansion in transport refrigeration systems using electric compressors and fully electric external electrical supply that use non-flammable F-gas refrigerants (R-452A, R-410A and R-134a).

Finally, we report on a state-of-the-art marine Waste Heat Recovery Organic Rankine Cycle to achieve high efficiency and energy-saving in marine applications.

Interested in EFCTC’s list of upcoming events relating to fluorocarbons? You can find them listed at the bottom of the newsletter and on the fluorocarbons.org website.

Thank you for your continued interest in EFCTC.

PFAS

EFCTC commissioned socioeconomic assessment of PFAS restriction on F-gas sector submitted to ECHA

EFCTC commissioned an independent consultant, Ricardo Energy & Environment, to undertake an independent Socio-Economic Analysis (SEA) of the contribution of certain fluorinated gases (F-gases) to the economy and wider society. The SEA has been submitted to an ECHA public consultation. This study explores the potential economic and social effects of the proposed restriction…

Most experts agreed that “all PFAS” should not be grouped together

An expert panel was convened to provide insight and guidance on per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) grouping for the purposes of protecting human health from drinking water exposures, and how risks to PFAS mixtures should be assessed. Most experts agreed that “all PFAS” should not be grouped together; persistence alone is not sufficient…

BENEFITS OF F-GASES

IEA report states heat pumps, district energy and building renovation crucial to achieving net zero

Modern,Residential,Buildings,In,The,Public,Green,Area.,Apartment,Houses

The International Energy Agency (IEA), has issued several analyses is part of a series from its new report, Technology and innovation pathways for zero-carbon-ready buildings by 2030. Heat pumps, district energy networks and renovation of existing building stock are crucial components to achieve this objective.…

Transport refrigeration goes electric with F-gas refrigerants

  Frozen,Vegetables,Background

The rapid expansion in transport refrigeration units from leading suppliers, for a range of applications, using electric compressors and fully electric external electrical supply is reducing diesel emissions, noise (particularly important for urban deliveries), increasing efficiency and can provide unit weight reductions. At the heart of these systems are non-flammable F-gas refrigerants (R-452A,…

State-of-the-art marine Waste Heat Recovery Organic Rankine Cycle

Aerial,Front,View,Of,A,Loaded,Container,Cargo,Vessel,Traveling

A new state-of-the-art binary power generation system based on Organic Rankine Cycle technology (WHR-ORC system) has been developed for marine waste heat recovery from sulphur free fuel burning engines, which are becoming mainstream in the transition to a low-carbon and decarbonized society. It consists of three models that cover rated outputs of between…
