Dear subscriber,

In this EFCTC May newsletter, we report on the start of the Trialogue negotiation on the revision of the F-gas Regulation and a joint industry statement on the Council negotiating mandate, which has taken a flexible approach to the F-gas regulations. We also discuss the new EU National Inventory Report for greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, which shows that although overall emissions increased in 2021 by 6.2% compared to 2020, hydrofluorocarbons (HFC) emissions decreased by 4.3% compared to 2020.

We proceed in this newsletter with a recently published hazard and risk assessment review of the mammalian toxicity of trifluoroacetic acid (TFA) and its exposure to humans. This publication is timely due to its relevance to the public consultation for the PFAS restriction proposal.

Finally, we report on a project about a high efficiency centrifugal chiller, which uses HFO-1234ze(E) as a refrigerant and has received an Excellence Award in Japan for its advancement of energy saving.

Do you want to learn more about EFCTC’s list of upcoming events relating to fluorocarbons? You can find them at the bottom of the newsletter and on the fluorocarbons.org website.

Thank you for your continued interest in EFCTC.

Trialogue negotiation on F-Gas Regulation: final text before the summer?

  eu caninsters

In an article for La Rpf – Revue Pratique du Froid, the AFCE (Alliance Froid Climatisation Environnement) suggested that a final text may emerge from the trialogue discussions before the summer, perhaps by the end of June.

While most EU economic sectors saw emission increases in 2021, HFC emissions decreased

May newsletter graph

The EU National Inventory Report (NIR) for GHG emissions, published on the UNFCCC website, shows that total GHG emissions (including Land Use, Land Use Change and Forestry, or LULUCF, and international aviation) increased in 2021 by 193 million tonnes, or 6.2%, compared to 2020, to reach 3,311 million tonnes CO2 equivalent in…

TRIFLUOROACETIC ACID (TFA)

Assessment of human health risks due to environmental exposures to TFA

A recently published hazard and risk assessment reviews the mammalian toxicity of trifluoroacetic acid (TFA) and human exposure to assess the margin of exposures (MoE) (see note 1). The publication is particularly timely, due to its relevance to the public consultation for the PFAS restriction proposal. TFA administered to rats did not…
