HEAT PUMP TUMBLE DRYER USES LOWER GWP R-450A TO REPLACE R-134A
18 February 2019
Non-flammable R-134a is widely used for heat pump tumble dryers providing reduced energy consumption of up to 50% compared to condenser dryers. A dryer manufacturer is replacing R-134a with non-flammable R-450A which it states is a near drop-in replacement for R-134a, and enabled a quick and easy changeover with no additional engineering investment. The low toxicity A1 classification refrigerant R-450A is a HFC/HFO blend having a GWP of 604 compared to 1430 for R-134a (AR4 F-Gas GWPs) a reduction of about 60%. The reduction in GWP for R-450A helps improve refrigerant availability under the F-Gas cap and quota system and offers similar performance and energy efficiency.
