EFCTC Factsheet on published refrigerant-related accidents

Alternative refrigerants or HFCs: an obvious choice? The refrigeration and air-conditioning industry selects refrigerants on the basis of a number of criteria which include safety, energy efficiency and environmental impact. Fluoride in the Atmosphere: A very small contribution from HFCs

Fluorine, in the form of fluoride ion, is found in many rocks and minerals and most soils. It comprises 0.06% of the Earth's crust (which, although it does not seem much, is actually about twice the known amount of fossil fuel carbon). Fluorides are released into the environment naturally through the weathering and dissolution of minerals, in emissions from volcanoes and in marine aerosols....

Revised Global Warming Potentials

In preparation for the Fifth Scientific Assessment Report (AR5) by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), the above paper systematically reviews the published literature concerning the Radiative Efficiencies (REs) of halogen containing greenhouse gases. It also uses revised atmospheric lifetimes for carbon dioxide and so changes the global warming potentials calculated for  a range of compounds....
