EFCTC: Regulatory developments: F-Gas Legislation

Legislation

The F-Gas Regulation and the MAC Directive were published in the Official Journal of the European Union on 14 June 2006.

The principle objective of the  Regulation  is to contain, prevent and thereby reduce emissions of F gases.

The Regulation covers the use of HFCs, PFCs and SF6 in all their applications, except Mobile Air Conditioning, covered by the Directive.

To implement the F-Gas Regulation, the Commission was required to put in place a number of implementing regulations establishing legal requirements for companies and qualifications for personnel working in five industry sectors covered by the  Regulation as well as dealing with other requirements relating to leakage checking, reporting and labelling.
