The European Commission is currently reviewing the measures under the F-gas regulation (842/2006). One of the options under consideration is an HFC “cap-and-allocation” system. EFCTC has assessed the implications of such potential future legislation.
The European Fluorocarbons Technical Committee (EFCTC), a sector group of the European Chemical Industry Council (CEFIC), wishes to comment on the ENDS Europe newsflash of 26 January suggesting that the breakdown of HFO 1234yf used in mobile air conditioning (MAC) systems, could generate sufficiently high atmospheric/aquatic TFA-levels to cause environmental problems.

Following the publication of alarming news regarding the potential danger of using HFO-1234yf in Mobile Air Conditioning (MAC), an independent expert puts HFO-1234yf risks into perspective.

The HFO-1234yf Cooperative Research Programs conducted in recent years at international laboratories investigated a range of issues

A company specialized in aeroplane products has recently made trials to produce a new onboard insecticide range using HFO-1234ze (CF3CF-CH2) as a propellant, to replace HFC-134a.

Taking into consideration additional risks created by Hydrocarbon refrigerants, the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) has released its “Review on the use of Hydrocarbon in Singapore”

Most accidents are due to equipment failures or human errors. These factors reinforce the fact that for each refrigerant use, and particularly those with dangerous properties, accidents must be minimized by high technical standards, good maintenance of installations and adequate training.
