Abbotsford Regional Hospital and Cancer Centre (Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada) has received a first place award for the design of its HFC-based cooling system, featuring two 3,200 kW high-performance centrifugal chillers.

The chillers are configured in series counterflow, to optimize their energy efficiency at varying load ranges, using only 44 per cent energy compared to the typical EPA fixed benchmark for such buildings.

The Abbotsford Regional Hospital and Cancer Centre (ARHCC) is a 300 bed acute care hospital with nine operating theatres, pediatric and maternity services, inpatient isolation rooms, medical imaging and radiation cancer treatment facilities.
