The UK Environment Agency had carried out a study to assess the flammability of refrigerator insulation foam blown with HCs (Hydrocarbons :cyclopentane, i-pentane, n-pentane or mixtures of these gases), and found that all tested foam samples should be considered "highly flammable", and, as such, should be classified as hazardous waste, unless tested and demonstrated otherwise.

Two HFC based 300 kW highly efficient chillers have been installed at the National Library of Scotland to replace ageing HCFC-22 chillers. The chillers are linked to a free cooling system, providing chilled water to a number of air handling units.
The US Air-Conditioning, Heating, and Refrigeration Institute (AHRI) has published “AHRI 700-2012: Specification for Fluorocarbon Refrigerants”, which specifies acceptable levels of contaminants (purity requirements) for all fluorocarbon refrigerants : CFCs, HCFCs, HFCs, HFOs and refrigerant blends.
Two 125 kW Organic Rankine Cycle (ORC) generators using HFC-245fa as working fluid have been installed in an Italian manufacturing plant where they increase the output of a biomass boiler, which converts the wood waste generated at the factory into renewable energy to heat and power the facility.
