Toxicological profile HFC-245fa

The HFC-245fa rat 4-hour inhalation LC50 of HFC-23 in male and female rats is >203,000

HFC-245fa cardiac sensitization NOAEL in a sensitive laboratory animal species is = 34,100 ppm and the threshold for effects is 44,000 ppm.  It showed slight effects on the heart muscle in a 90 day study at 10,000 and 50,000 ppm but not at 2,000 ppm.

It was not metabolized to any measurable extent by humans when exposed for 1-hr at the current occupational exposure level of 300 ppm.

HFC-245fa is not a developmental toxin in laboratory animals. The maternal and developmental no-observed-effect level (NOEL) was 50,000 ppm, which was the highest dose tested.

HFC-245fa is not considered genotoxic.  HFC-245fa was not mutagenic in Salmonella typhimurium (Ames assay).  It was not active in a human chromosome aberration assay without metabolic activation and only weakly active with metabolic activation.  HFC-245fa was negative in an in vivo mouse micronucleus assay with exposures up to 100,000 ppm.
